INB: Internet-Native Banner

About INB:

INB, or "Internet Native Banner" is now the only method of accessing the Banner environment. It replaces all previous access methods such as "Citrix" and the Windows client/server applicaiton.

The following Operating System/Web Browser combinations have been tested and approved for use with INB by ETS:

  • Windows 98/2000/XP with Internet Explorer 5.5+
  • Macintosh OS X (10.2) with Internet Explorer 5.2 - Java 1.4.1 update (or better) highly recommended!
  • Macintosh OS X (10.2) with Netscape 7.02 - Java 1.4.1 update (or better) highly recommended!

The following platforms are NOT certified and are known to have problems with INB:

  • Macintosh OS 9.2.1 or earlier
  • Windows 98/2000/XP with Netscape 6+

Running INB on Microsoft Windows - Internet Explorer Instructions:

  1. Start Internet Explorer and go to
  2. A "Security Warning" Dialog will appear asking if you wish to install Java(TM) SE Runtime Enviroment".  Answer "Yes":
-You will only need to install the Java Runtime once.  Each subsequent visit to will take you directly to the Banner login dialog.
-On occasion, there may be upgrades to the Java runtime.  If this happens, you will be prompted to re-install Java.  All you have to do is answer "Yes", as indicated in step 3. Please note that Java updates should not be ingored as they usually contain critical security updates.
  3. When installation has completed, you will be returned to your browser.  Internet-Native Banner then will spawn in a separate window:
  4. Log in and use Banner.  Please Note: You must not close the original web browser window that spawned your Banner session.  If you close this browser window, your Banner session will terminate!

Running INB on Macintosh OSX:

  1. If using Internet Explorer as your browser, you must enable Java support  (Java is enabled by default when using Netscape 6+.  If you are using Netscape, skip to step 2):
-Start Internet Explorer, go to the Explorer->Preferences menu:

-Under the "Web Browser->Java heading, select "Enable Java", then click okay:

  2. Go to . After a few seconds you will be prompted with a Java security warning:

Despite the dire-sounding warning, it is safe to click "Grant Always" at this point..
  3. The Java Banner application will now load on your system.  In another few seconds you will be prompted with the familiar Banner login screen:

Running INB on other Platforms:

INB should run on any operating system with an Internet connection and a Web browser with Java 1.1.8+ plugin support.  For example, a RedHat Linux 8.0 system running Mozilla 1.0.2/Sun Java 1.4.1 plugin has been demonstrated to run INB quite effectively.  These configurations currently are not supported by ETS, but if it works for you please feel free to use it!
