ApplicationXtender at UVM:

About ApplicationXtender:

ApplicationXtender (AX) is a suite of products for capturing of paper documents into a digital archive, the indexing of the documents, and subsequent retrieval of these documents.  These services were implemented in a cooperative venture between ETS and several other departments on campus.

Some of the major users of ApplicationXtender are:  Human Resources, Dean's Office of the Graduate College, Administrative Facilities Services/Procurement Services, Admissions, Student Financial Services and Registrar.  Many staff members outside of these departments also require access to documents in the system.

ApplicationXtender Web Access (AX Web Access) is the web-based interface to documents captured by the AX system.  AX Web Access is compatible with most browser products, but advanced features of AX Web Access require Internet Explorer version 7 on Windows (ActiveX controls and a Java runtime are required).  Advanced features of AX Web Access include the ability to index and annotate scanned documents, the ability to scan new documents through the browser, and faster access to a greater variety captured document types.

People who require the highest level of access to the system my choose the full ApplicationXtender Document Manager client (which allows users to retrieve, index, annotate documents, and to scan new pages into existing document sets), and Application Xtender Image Capture (a simple batch scanning tool).  Both of these components run only on supported Windows operating systems, and also require a separate Oracle database client.

Software Installation and Configuration

Access to documents stored in the system can be accomplished wither through ApplicationXtender Web Access (which requires only a web browser), or using the full ApplicationXtender Document Manager program for Windows.  This is also true if you are opening ApplicationXtender thru Banner INB.  Every ApplicationXtender client installation is dependent on the presence of the Oracle Database Client (Version 10.2.0.4)

Instructions for the installation of the most current version of Application Xtender v6.50 sp1:

·        Go to \\files.uvm.edu\software\ApplicationXtender directory to access the shortcuts for the executables.

·        Use the 'Install Oracle Instant Client' shortcut to upgrade to version 10.2.0.4 that is supported by both Oracle and EMCNOTE:  This installation will copy ldap.ora and sqlnet.ora file to your C:\\Program Files\Oracle\InstantClient_10_2\network\ADMIN\ folder which will enable you to access all the relevant AX databases.  We are now utilizing LDAP for access.

·        Choose the appropriate install shortcut for either Win7-Vista or WinXP:

o Install AXDesktop 6.50 - Admin Station  (for User Administrators only - includes Application Generator)

o Install AXDesktop 6.50 - Import Station (with Key Ref)

o Install AXDesktop 6.50 - Scan Station

o Install AXDesktop 6.50 - Standard Install

Note: After installing the applicable AXDesktop, you must then run the patch for this version. It can be found at \\files\software\ApplicationXtender\AX65Patch1.exe . The readme file is also available in the same location (AX65Patch1_readme.htm)

·        Banner Xtender Solutions users:  Log into www.uvm.edu/banner (banneraist - AIST or bannerbanupg – Pre-Production) and click on the first of two imaging icons that are displayed in the toolbar.  You should get a message that your password for Application Xtender is being synced with Banner and should open up a session of Application Xtender.  Your Application Xtender password will now be the same as your Banner password.

·        AX users using the client-server version (applications not associated with BannerXtender Solutions): Log into AX Document Manager using your netid and password.  Once in select File -> Load Settings and choose the applicable config file (\\files\software\ApplicationXtender\Config\).  There are 650-IMGP-PROD.AXS for production (Banner database: PROD and Non-Banner database: IMGP) and 650-IMGX-IMGY-AIST-BANUPG.AXS for test environments (Banner databases: AIST and BANUPG, Non-Banner databases: IMGY - pre-production and IMGX – sandbox).
