"Flag this message" and "Upgrade Your Account." Emails are Scams

Have you received email with a subject of "Flag this message" or "Upgrade Your Account."?    Please do not click on the link; simply delete the message.  It is a phishing scam. 

This message, like any other email that asks you to to enter your UVM password on a non-UVM web site, is a phishing scam. Do  not click links in such messages and do not reply.  

UVM will never ask you to enter your UVM Net-ID and password on a non-UVM web page -- even if it looks like a UVM page, and even if it's on a reputable site, such as Google Docs or, or if it contains UVM graphics and appears to come from a UVM email address. 

What to do if you've clicked on the link

If you've followed the link in the message, or replied to this email or one like it, you should change your password immediately at Contact the UVM Computing Helpline if you need assistance changing your password.

The "Upgrade Your Account." Phishing Message (a.k.a. "Flag this message")

Here is the phishing message many of us received overnight.  The Subject may be "Flag this message" or "Upgrade Your Account."

Subject: Upgrade Your Account.  

The University of Vermont


This email is being sent to you because of violation security breach
that was detected by our servers. Our server detected that one of the
messages you received from a contact has already infected your mail
with a dangerous virus.

You can no longer be allowed to send messages or files to other users to
prevent the spread of virus to other users.

Please follow the link below to perform maintenance work needed to
improve the protection of the email for us to verify and have your
account cleared against this virus.

Failure to comply will lead to the termination of your Account in the
next 48 hours.
