Insecure Email Logins Disabled
- By Helpline
Insecure unencrypted access to the UVM mail servers will be disabled after today. Connections to imap.uvm.edu, pop.uvm.edu, and smtp.uvm.edu will require TLS or SSL encryption in order to protect passwords. Many UVM affiliates who already connect in a secure manner will not notice any change. The relatively small portion of the total UVM email population who have been connecting insecurely have received several emails over the past few weeks notifying them of the change and providing URL with instructions on how to change their email client's settings to comply with the new mail server rules. The email also shows where the insecure connections were made, as an aid in determining which of multiple computers and phones has insecure settings. Clients unable to connect after Monday, June 14, may still access their email using UVM Webmail until their usual mail program can be configured correctly.
