Installation Details for Emeriti Faculty
We are delighted that you are participating in the procession at the Installation Ceremony for E. Thomas Sullivan, the 26th President of the University of Vermont and State Agricultural College, on Friday, October 5, 2012. The Installation Ceremony begins at 1:30 p.m. in Ira Allen Chapel preceded by the academic procession that begins at 1:00 p.m. We ask that those not participating in the academic procession or guests of those participating in the academic procession be seated in Ira Allen Chapel by 1:00 p.m. We anticipate nearly a thousand people will attend the Installation Ceremony. In addition, this weekend is Alumni Reunion, Homecoming, and Family Weekend. It will surely be memorable.
On Wednesday, October 3, 2012, as part of the Installation of President Sullivan, the University is sponsoring a Student Scholars Poster Competition. The event will take place from 2:00 – 4:30 p.m. in the Grand Maple Ballroom located in the Dudley H. Davis Center. The winners of the competition will be announced at 3:15 p.m. Additional information is available on the installation website: www.uvm.edu/installation
The following is important information about the Installation Ceremony and related events:
Academic regalia is required for procession participants. UVM Emeriti Faculty who need to order academic regalia may do so through the UVM Bookstore. Orders must be placed no later than Wednesday, September 26. The cost of the rental is $55.00. To place an order, stop by the Department Charges Counter in the Bookstore at the Davis Center or contact Brendan Andrews: (802) 656-0989 or Brendan.Andrews@uvm.edu. Regalia may be picked-up on campus at the UVM Bookstore.
The academic procession will assemble in the tent located between the Davis Center and Bailey/Howe Library. The academic procession will march along University Place to the Ira Allen Chapel for the Installation Ceremony. The reception will be held immediately following the Installation Ceremony around the fountain on the University Green.
UVM Faculty and Emeriti Faculty should bring their regalia with them to the tent, which will be located outside of the Davis Center and Bailey/Howe Library. Please arrive for robing by 12:30 p.m. on Friday, October 5, 2012. In the event of inclement weather, robing for faculty will take place in the lower level of Billings Library in Cook Commons.
Weather Related Information
In the event of inclement weather, those participating in the academic procession will assemble in the lower level of Billings Library in Cook Commons. The academic procession will proceed from Cook Commons directly to Ira Allen Chapel for the Installation Ceremony. The reception will be held immediately following the Installation Ceremony in Billings Library adjacent to Ira Allen Chapel.

Due to limited seating (in Ira Allen Chapel), the Installation Ceremony is a ticketed event. Those participating in the academic procession, including University delegates, University of Vermont faculty and Emeriti faculty, and members of the platform party, will not need tickets. If you are bringing a guest, tickets will be mailed in advance.
We anticipate the ceremony will last until approximately 3:00 p.m. In addition to the procession at 1:00 p.m., Emeriti Faculty will also participate in the recessional.
The reception will be held immediately following the Installation Ceremony around the fountain on the University Green. Refreshments and light hors d'oeuvres will be provided. In the event of inclement weather, the reception will be held in Billings Library adjacent to Ira Allen Chapel.
Deaf and Disability Accommodation Requests
Participants or guests with disabilities and those who are Visually Impaired, Deaf, Hard of Hearing or Deaf-Blind may make arrangements for accommodations for parking, amplification, captioning, interpreters, large print, and Braille. Free Parking for the Installation Ceremony will be provided at the Gutterson Parking Garage on the Athletic Campus off of Spear Street. A map of campus with directions to parking and shuttle stops will be available on the Installation web site next week: www.uvm.edu/installation. Shuttle buses will pick up guests from the Patrick Gym lobby entrance and transport guests to the Davis Center or directly to Ira Allen Chapel starting at 10:30 a.m. Shuttle buses will run every 15 minutes.
Following the Installation Ceremony and the Reception, shuttle buses will be available to take guests back to the Gutterson Parking Garage. If the reception is outdoors, shuttle buses will pick up guests at the circle by Royall Tyler Theatre. If the reception is indoors, shuttle buses will meet guests directly in front of Billings Library.
