The Personal Safety Response Team Overview
The
University of Vermont maintains a Personal Safety Response Team to
support the University's goal of promoting a safe working environment
through prevention, education and coordination of efforts to identify
and intervene with employees who are at risk for violating UVM's
Personal Safety and Security Policy.
Guiding Principles
- The
Personal Safety Response Team values and maintains confidentiality in
accordance with state and federal and other applicable University
policies.
- Recognizing that the behavior of individuals can have
a profound impact on the community, the team seeks a balance between a
desire to support individuals and the overall safety and wellbeing of
the UVM community.
- The team coordinates efforts to ensure those
affected by a personal safety event receive appropriate support and
assist University departments in their return to normal operations.
Primary Functions of the Team
- Consult
with one another about appropriate strategies for assisting faculty and
staff concerning personal safety issues and promoting the safety and
wellbeing of the UVM community;
- Agree upon a plan of action so
that various University personnel are taking as consistent approach as
possible to assisting an employee;
- Whenever possible and
appropriate, identify a "point" person(s) who will coordinate the
assistance that a particular employee of concern receives;
- Determine
who needs to have information about particular employees of concern so
that the optimal balance between maintaining privacy, offering
assistance and promoting the safety and wellbeing of the community is
achieved.
- Gather data on trends and patterns and make strategic
and policy recommendations to the President's Commission on Social
Change based on campus-wide and best Institutional Practices.
