How are salaries determined?
Salaries are determined on an individual basis by the management team responsible for the position in collaboration with classification & compensation staff, taking level of responsibility, individual's education and experience, market data and internal equity into account. Salaries cannot be below the minimum of the pay band.
What is the pay band for my position?
Pay bands associated with your classification title can be found on the HRS website. UVM has broad pay bands that are reviewed annuall and adjusted as needed to reflect market.
Does UVM have annual increases for classified staff?
Salary increases for classified staff are granted at the beginning of each staff member's appointment year (e.g., on July 1 for a 12-month appointment year, on September 1 for a 9-month appointment year).
What other opportunities exist for a salary increase?
In addition to annual salary increases, non-represented staff may also be eligible to receive an Off-Cycle Increase, which is intended to address market and equity issues relative to recruitment, retention, and organizational change during the fiscal year. Such increases are contingent on availability of sufficient funds in department budgets. Represented staff are not eligible for Off-Cycle increases.
How are salaries set when classified staff change positions or titles as the result of a position review?
The appropriate salary is determined on an individual basis by the management team responsible for the position, working together with Human Resource Services. Typically, upon movement of a position to a higher payband, an employee is eligible to receive a position review increase. Generally, the minimum increase will be no less than 5%. The new salary cannot be below the minimum of the new payband. Salary increases are retroactive to the date that HRS received the action in PeopleAdmin.
