Winter Break Closing Information, 2010

Admissions, Undergraduate

The Office of Admissions will be closed beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 22, 2010, and will reopen Monday, January 3, 2011 at 8:00 a.m. During the break, students may check their application status, view their transfer credit evaluation and pay their acceptance fee at www.uvm.edu/admissions/appstatus. The first campus visit and tour for 2nd semester will take place Wednesday, January, 19, 2011, at 2:00 p.m.

Athletic Facilities

During the holiday break, all Athletic facilities will be closed from Thursday, December 23rd, through Sunday, January 2nd. Adjusted winter break hours will resume on Monday, January 3rd. Please refer to the Campus Recreation website for specific facility schedules: http://www.uvm.edu/recreation

CATcard Service Center

The CATcard Service Center will close at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 22, 2010 and re-open at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, January 3, 2011. Cash deposits may be made in either the Bailey/Howe or Dana Medical Libraries using the DART machines, located by the circulation desks. Credit Card deposits may be made at:

If you need to report a CATcard related door access issue, please call Police Services at 656-3473, and ask them to contact the CATcard Technical Support Group.

Conference and Event Services

Conference & Event Services will close at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 and reopen on Monday, January 3, 2011 at 8:00 a.m.. No events are scheduled and, therefore, the office will not be providing event support services. R25 will still be available for submitting on-line reservation requests, and all reservation and space requests will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis, once the office opens on Monday, January 3, 2011.

Davis Center

The Davis Center will close at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 22, 2010 and reopen on Monday, January 3, 2011 at 7:00 a.m. All services located within the Davis Center will be closed during this time.

Development and Alumni Relations

Development and Alumni Relations will be open 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. December 27 through 31 to transact calendar year end gifts and provide customer service primarily for alumni events. Center for Health and Wellbeing

The Center for Health and Wellbeing will be operating on the following schedule:

Custodial Services

The Custodial Services Office will be closed from 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 22, 2010 through Monday, January 3, 2011 at 7:00 a.m. During the break Custodial teams will be on-call for emergencies throughout campus.

Custodial Services request that all office occupants empty their personal trash bins in order to prevent odors and pest from accumulating during the break.

Med Plex public areas will be serviced throughout the break (restroom policing, hallway trash removal and recycling, and break rooms). Basic public services will also be provided to Residential Life (see Residential Life), Library Services (see Library), Athletics open areas (see Athletics), and Police Services. Scheduled university events will be serviced (set-up, breakdown and cleaning).

Snow removal will occur as needed and to support the UVM community.

Contact Service Operations Support (SOS) at 656-2560 and hit #1. These services are available 24/7 for Custodial assistance during the break.

Enterprise Technology Services (ETS)

In order to support essential University functions during the winter break, all centrally-supported information technology infrastructure services will be available, including:

Getting Help

Most of Enterprise Technology Services' regular support services will be closed, but ETS is providing services to help with the most urgent information technology issues.

For information about service status and any service interruptions, please call the IT Status Line: 656-1234.

The ETS Computing Help Line will be open on a reduced schedule. Please refer to www.uvm.edu/it/help/ for details. Send help requests at any time online or by calling 656-2604; if we are unable to answer, please leave a message so that we can call you back. Response time for assistance will be greater than normal, and on-site and in-person help will not be available. Complex and nonemergency issues will be addressed after the break. Computer Depot operations housed in the Davis Center will be unavailable while the Davis Center is closed. Depot operations will resume their normal schedule beginning at 9:00 AM, Monday, January 3, 2011.

What Will Be Closed

The Davis Center and Waterman Building will be closed December 23, 2010 through January 3, 2011, and services based in those locations will not be available:

Graduate College

The Graduate College will close on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 4:00 pm and will reopen at 8:00 am on Monday, January 3, 2011. Students will be able to apply online during this time. All materials received in the mail on Monday, January 3rd will meet January 1, 2011 application deadlines.

Payroll - Semi-monthly & Biweekly December 30

The extended break affects the semi-monthly and biweekly payrolls scheduled for December 29.

For the semi-monthly payroll of Wednesday, December 29, 2010 the due date for the submission of documents is being moved to Monday, December 6, 2010. The pay date itself remains December 29.

For direct depositors the payroll will be distributed to member banks on Monday, December 27, 2010 for deposit on Wednesday, December 29, 2010.

For the biweekly payroll dated Wednesday, December 29, 2010, time worked will need to be submitted by Thursday, December 16, 2010 at 12:00 noon. This early deadline means that some of the time to be worked during the closing will have to be submitted before it is actually worked. Supervisors will need to approve time before 3:00 pm on Thursday December 16, 2010. Kronos supervisors will need to submit time by 2:00 pm on Thursday December 16, 2010. For direct depositors the payroll will be distributed to member banks on Monday, December 27, 2010, for deposit on Wednesday, December 29, 2010.

For those receiving a paper paycheck delivered to UVM campus addresses—either semi-monthly or biweekly—the Human Resource Services Employee Information Center, Waterman Building Room 228, will be open on December 29, 2010 from 9:30 am to 11:30 am for check pick up. An ID will be required to pick up a check. Any checks not picked up on that date will be returned to UVM Mail Services on Monday, January 3, 2011, for distribution to campus.

Physical Plant

Physical Plant will operate similar to a normal weekend or Holiday. To report a problem related to a facilities operational need, call SOS at 656-2560. Central plant operators will receive the call and dispatch a service technician to the affected area. Physical Plant will have a service technician on site 24/7 for these situations.

Weather pending, additional staff may be on-site if situations could be severe enough for building freeze-ups if a condition is left unattended or unnoticed. A notice to the UVM community to assist with energy savings measures will be sent shortly.

Police Services

Police Services will provide public safety services per normal and customary practices and will be open 24/7 during the break.

Residential Life

The residence halls close for Winter Break at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 17 and reopen for returning students at noon on Sunday, January 16 (new students may arrive from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, January 14). Exceptions are L/L, Harris Millis, and the Cottages where break housing is offered for current UVM residents. Except for the holiday break, the service desk in Robinson Hall will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays during Winter Break and 12:00 noon to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 16.

Risk Management & Environmental Safety

The Department of Risk Management & Environmental Safety will be closed beginning 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 22, 2010 and reopening Monday, January 3, 2011. Lab emergencies involving chemical spills or releases, any accidents resulting in serious injury, or significant property damage (fire, flood, etc.) should be reported to Police Services at 911, who will page a Risk Management & Environmental Safety employee if needed. For any workplace injuries that occur during the holiday week, seek medical attention, and complete and submit a worker’s compensation first report of injury form, which can be found on line at: http://www.uvm.edu/~riskmgmt/insurance/uvm_first_report.doc

Staff Council

The Staff Council Office will close on Friday, December 17, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. and reopen on Monday, January 3, 2011 at 8:00 a.m. If you wish to take advantage of the following discounts, you must do so before Friday, December 17th at 1:00 pm:

Transportation and Parking Services (TPS)

The TPS Office will remain open during normal business weekdays from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm with the exception of Administrative Holidays.

Shuttle bus service will end at 5:20 pm on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 and resume at 7:30 am on Monday January 3, 2011. The on-demand shuttle service will end at 4:00 pm on Wednesday December 22, 2010 and resume at 7:30 am on Monday January 3, 2011.

Monday, December 20, 2010 through Sunday, January 2, 2011: All valid employee permits will be allowed parking in any lot on campus. Permits will, however, be required during regular hours with the exception of Administrative Holidays. Regular parking policy returns on January 3, 2011.

Should your car need to be parked on campus overnight while you are away on UVM business please remember to park in the middle and lower levels of Gutterson Garage. With the winter season upon us, these locations will not be in the way of snow removal during the holiday break.

Metered Parking areas will be enforced in accordance with policy.

University Bookstore

The Bookstore, Henderson Café and the CATPause Convenience Store will all be open Monday, December 20, 2010, Tuesday, December 21, 2010, and Wednesday, December 22, 2010, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Bookstore, Henderson Café and CATPause Convenience Store will closed from Thursday, December 23, 2010 through Sunday, January 2, 2011 and reopen on Monday, January 3, 2011 at 8:00 a.m.

Catamount Store down on Church Street will be open Thursday, December 23 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Friday, December 24 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Store will be closed Saturday, December 25, Sunday, December 26, Saturday, January, and Sunday January 2.

University Financial Services

University Financial Services, including the Cashier's Office and Treasury, will be closed beginning 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 22, 2010 and will reopen Monday, January 3, 2011 at 8:00 a.m. Any wire transfer requests must be put into the system by Wednesday, December 22, 2010 by 3:00 p.m., therefore any international wire requests received after 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 21, 2010, and any domestic wire requests received after 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 22, 2010, will not be entered and sent until Monday, January 3, 2011.
