Completing a Position Description Form (for classified staff positions only):

Recruiting for a new or vacant position

Hiring supervisors should:
  1. Download the Position Description Form, complete it, and save it as an electronic document.
  2. Complete the Recruitment Form and other required documentation and obtain approval/signatures from next supervisory level.
  3. Submit to your Human Resources Representative via email all required Recruitment materials, such as:
    1. the Recruitment Form
    2. the completed Position Description
    3. organizational chart
    4. search plans
    5. requests to hire without a search.
The HR representative will email the Recruitment materials to Financial Analysis & Budgeting. For new positions, a classification analyst, in collaboration with the supervisor, will determine the most appropriate job standard.

Reviewing or updating an existing position

To initiate the position review process, employees and/or supervisors should download and complete a Position Description Form and email it with an organizational chart to their next supervisory level for budget approval at the department and dean/director levels. An HR representative, dean, director, or VP then emails the approved Position Description form to clascomp@uvm.edu.

A management consultant, in collaboration with the supervisor, will determine the most appropriate job standard. Resulting salary adjustments are retroactive to the date the Position Description is received via clascomp@uvm.edu, unless the duties will be assigned at a later date.  Appeals of classification decisions should be made to Ginnie Gude, the Human Resource Services Research & Analysis Team Lead.
