Orientation Day

Orientation Day

As a new employee, you are required to attend a comprehensive New Employee Orientation. The purpose of this orientation is to impart benefits knowledge and compliance information, as well as to support you as you complete required paperwork.

Topics and activities will include:

  • Benefits (sign up for medical, dental, retirement, etc.)
  • Office Safety
  • Affirmative Action and sexual harassment
  • Compliance
  • Information Technology Security
  • Opportunity to complete online training (optional)

To Prepare for Orientation

Proceed through these pages to determine the benefits for which you are eligible and what you need to bring to Orientation. You must submit your completed benefits and payroll forms at the end of Orientation. All forms will be completed during Orientation, and Human Resources personnel will be available to answer benefits questions and assist you.

View Our Presentation

We have created an interactive presentation that we encourage you to watch before you attend Orientation. Note that the presentation will take 30 seconds or more to fully load. Please turn up the volume on your speakers or click the closed captioning icon in the bottom left corner of the screen prior to beginning the presentation.

Presentation: General Information for New Employees

This presentation was developed to help you understand how to:

  • Obtain your UVM ID and understand the benefits it provides
  • Activate your UVM NetID and discuss its purpose
  • Navigate various UVM web pages
  • Access your UVM Paycheck and Direct Deposit
  • Understand UVM Holidays, Vacation Time and other leave benefits
  • Learn about Parking and Transportation
  • Discover other perks and hidden benefits of employment at UVM

(If you are not able to watch the presentation prior to orientation, there will be an opportunity at the end of your orientation to view it.)

Parking on Orientation Day

The Orientation Day e-mail you received should have included a printable, one-day parking permit for the Gutterson Parking Garage. If you did not receive a permit, please contact Learning Services at 656-5800 or HRSLearningServices@uvm.edu.

It is a 15 to 20-minute walk from the Gutterson Parking Garage to the Billings Building. You also may take a Campus Area Transportation System (CATS) shuttle bus from the circle in front of Patrick Gym. (Service is provided at roughly 10 minute intervals when classes are in session.) See the CATS schedule or a UVM campus map for further information.
