Call for papers

Be part of the inaugural edition of the journal!

The editors of Preservation Research & Education invite paper proposals for the first (2008) edition of the journal. Papers on all topics related to preservation education, research, and scholarship are considered.

The deadline for submission of papers has been extended to February 1, 2008. Papers will be blind reviewed and authors notified of publication status by April 2008.


Manuscript Submission Guidelines

ONLY ORIGINAL WORK NEITHER PUBLISHED NOR UNDER REVIEW ELSEWHERE WILL BE CONSIDERED (authors will be required to sign and resubmit a form to this effect).

Please submit your manuscript in an electronic format. This should be either via e-mail attachment as MS Word document or PDF file to Anat Geva or Nancy Volkman at PERjournal@gmail.com or as a MS Word document on a CD-R sent by regular mail to the address below.

In addition, two hard copies of the manuscript should be sent directly to the editors of this journal. Address for submissions is:

Manuscripts should conform to the following guidelines:

In general, submissions should follow Chicago Manual of Style. Submission should include the following:

1.  A title page with the title and author(s) information (i.e., name(s), affiliation(s), postal and e-mail addresses, phone)

2.  A one-page abstract of 150-200-word that summarizes the research question, research approach, and summary of findings.

3.  The body of the paper should consist of 4500-6000 words or 15-20 pages double-space 12 font text and 10 font endnotes. For blind-review process author(s)’s information should be OMITTED from the body of the paper and be included ONLY on the title page.

3.a. Paragraph format: double-spaced with left justification; double-space between paragraphs. Place one space between sentences.

3.b. Sections: capitalized HEADINGS; lower case Sub-Headings; Align flush left; double-space after headings and sub heading.

3.c. Quotations: direct quotations of five lines or more should be typed as a separate paragraph with no initial indentation and a blank line space left below.

3.d. Gender references: use gender-neutral references to the greatest extent possible.

3.e. Word emphasis: use italics.

4.  Endnotes should follow The Chicago Manual of Style. Number endnotes consecutively with Arabic numerals. Place book and journal titles in italics. Do not abbreviate the names of journals.   

5.  15 or fewer illustrations/tables of high quality, clearly reproducible black and white illustrations are encouraged (in exceptional cases color may be considered).  Electronic files, JPG or TIFF are required, but please ensure the resolution is equal or above 300 dpi at the required size of reproduction. All figures/tables should be sent in individual files, not embedded in the paper. Label the electronic files with the "number of figure.jpg"

5.a. Figures references: Reference each illustration within the text in the following manner: (Figure1); Table references: Reference each table within the text in the following manner: (Table1).

5.b.  Captions for illustrations/tables should be typed in numerical order and placed at the end of the manuscript. The list should include figure/table reference numbers, with only the following information in this order for each figure: designer, name of building or object, location, date of construction, date of destruction (if applicable), short description of illustration (example: view of living room), source.

5.c. Contributors must obtain a copy of owner's permission to reproduce any non-original illustrations, and submit it once the paper is accepted for publication. Fees for permission to reproduce illustrations are paid by the author.

Book Reviews

Book Reviews are solicited by the Book Review editor: Catherine W. Zipf.  Text of reviews should conform to the requirements for articles. Titles of reviews should include: book's author, title, place of publication, publisher, date, number of pages and of illustrations, and price.

Background of the new NCPE journal:

PRESERVATION EDUCATION AND RESEARCH

Mission:

As part of the NCPE 25th anniversary we propose to launch a new scholarly journal dedicated to preservation research and education. This journal follows NCPE main mission that is to exchange and disseminate information and ideas concerning preservation education. Furthermore, with this initiative the journal, which will include articles on current developments and innovations in preservation, caters to additional goal of NCPE -- the improvement of historic preservation education programs and endeavors in the United States and elsewhere.

Reviewers:

The editors compiled a database of more than 200 potential reviewers in various topics pertinent to preservation education and research.
