microorganisms

This website is about some of the smaller, obscure things in life.  Microorganisms are virtually unseen by many, yet they live just about everywhere.  On this website you will be able to view these little creatures up close in pictures.  They say that a picture is worth a thousand words - hopefully the pictures on this site and some of the information about these organisms will help give you an appreciation for these tiny little critters.

Research Question for this site:
What are the microorganisms that live in the designated area of group Shore and what does the existence of these organisms indicate or what are the ramifications of them?

About this site:
This site was created by a student as part of a science program in Vermont called the Governor's Institute.  The student who created this site studied three different sites around the shore of Lake Champlain by taking samples and also took a sample using a plankton net in the deep water of Lake Champlain.  At each individual site (not including Lake Champlain) the student took three different small samples - one in the soil at the shore, one in the substrate, and the last in the actual water.  The student then observed all of those samples under a microscope and classified the organisms that lived in them with the use of a dichotomous key.  Some of the organisms may be incorrectly classified or not fully classified to the species (or even genus) level because there wasn't enough time to conduct a scientific test with augar plates and a gram stain.
