The Farm Barn Team: Sarah Hough, Allicia Murphy, and Uyen Nguyen

The Shelburne Farm Barn was built in 1887 by requests from the Webb Family. It is an impressive structure consisting of five stories and three wings . The grand barn was built for work all year round and had a holding capacity of about 70-80 mules, housing for the workers, 1500 tons of storage space in the upper levels, and 1000 tons in the right wing. The farm barn was the largest structure constructed of its type and still stands as a marvel of Vermont architecture.

The clock tower stands five stories high and is located
in the cental portion of the barn. The picture on the
left displays the view of the southern side of the barn
from atop the tower.

1. Having moved from its previous location about ten years ago, the woodshop now occupies the southwest corner of the farm barn. Its former location was
in the northeast corner, where the original carpentry shop was built.
2. The Northeast corner of the farm barn, which had previously been home to livestock is now where the bakery can be found.

Back when the farm was still used for agricultural purposes, the upper
levels were used for the storage of farming implements (1-3),
grains (4), and other materials.
Although with dramatically less livestock than the days
when the Webbs owned it, the stables still manage to attract
visitors with its variety of farm animals (big and small).
