Lone Rock Point

Aquatic Life & Water Chemistry

- Water pH and conductivity were measured at 4 meter intervals out from a creek mouth entering Lake Champlain. The stream measured at a pH of 7.7 in a little pool. The shoreline measured at a pH of 8.1. Neutral pH is 7, therefore, the water around Lone Rock Point is basic and not acidic (<7).

- Inventory of near-lake botany of the riparian delta

willows (Salix)  poison ivy (grre and red in color)
 mint (square stemmed)  beech tree
red clover (Vermont state flower)  oak tree
jewel weed (an antidote for stinging nettle)  hop hornbeam (looks like beech)

- Inventory of near-lake botany of the cliffs and shoreline

northern white cedar (the tree of life)  hemlock
 grey birch  white pine

- Collected benthic macroinvertebrates to assess water quality

caddisflies (the case builders): trichoptera

With the discovery of both caddisflies and mayflies, we determined the water quality to be good.

mayflies (the frilly little larva): ephemoptera
