Tree Inventory
- Below are images of some of the tree core samples taken at Lone Rock Point (only trees greater than 0.45m in circumference had core samples taken). At the two different sites on Lone Rock Point, we marked off two 8m x 8m squares in which we conducted a tree survey. We used precision tree corers to take samples of the inside of trees to calculate the age. We drilled a small hole into each tree and then pulled out the core sample. We got a small piece of the tree which showed all of the rings. We then mounted and scanned the cores on to the computer and counted the rings. By finding the age of the tree and observing the distance the rings were from each other, we could judge how the tree's growth pattern was effected by the environment around in it. The samples are marked as follows, left to right (tree # - site #): 1-8, 7-2, 8-2, 1-1
