Riparian Forests

Lying only a couple meters above the river's water table, forming an undefined border between water and land, we find the floodplain. It has been created by a timeless cycle of flooding, slowly built up by the silt deposits of receding high waters. This floodplain is rich with nutrients, perfect for supporting life. A Riparian Forest, a diverse assortment of plant and animal life, emerges.

It is likely that if we were to go back in time several hundreds of years, Riparian Forests would cover much river and lakeside land, undisturbed by human influence. However, because a floodplain has a unique way of replenishing the nutrients of its soil year after year, the land of a Riparian Forest is valued as an agricultural gold mine to the wandering farmer. Our site, a peninsula occupying several acres of land, holds a preciously rare example of a this unique ecosystem.
