WELCOME!

HI!
I'm Wendy, here at GIV 2000 at UVM. Our entire group is made up of 36 students, which is pretty small compared to the other programs. Our program lasts from Sunday, June 25th - Sunday, July 2nd.
On a typical day, we get up EARLY and then head out for outdoor stations about 15 minutes from the campus. After a day outside (rain or shine), we have time to work on our websites. The stations include Five Tree Hill, Brownell Mountain, and Iroquois Lake.
I live in Danville, Vermont. Next year I'll be a Senior at Danville School, a Pre-K thru 12 school of about 500 students. I live with my mom, dad, sister Karri (14 years old), my dog Syra, cat Zoe, and kitten Tucker.

During the week we have a choice of two electives for different days. I got on the elite list to go to the Ben & Jerry's Plant in South Burlington! We got to help with their testing process: we put a pint of ice cream at a time into a sifter and washed it down the sink, leaving only the chocolate chunks. We weighed those and tested for consistency in mass. All in all we washed 24 pints down the drain! Afterwards we split pints into quarters to check how equal the swirls were. Then we got to eat it! We ate that until we were stuffed, asked some questions, then got up to leave. They gave us more ice cream in the form of Peace Pops! It was a very satisfying day.
At the end of the week, each group is responsible for a final project that they can present, and also a web page. Five Tree Hill is making a sign board for the trail telling about the effects of bikes and other vehicles, erosion, ferns, trees, the pond, vernal pools, and land use history.
Heidi and I are studying the pond, and used a tiny inflatable raft with two little paddles to find depth and dissolved oxygen in the middle of the pond. That was interesting!
Have a great summer!
