Tree Research
A few people in our group chose to focus on tree research. We first went to a plot with a lot of trees. Then we found the amount of area the plot would cover. The trees in that specific area were the only ones that we would research. The group had two plots. One of the plots was at Cabbage Pines, and the other one was at the Vernal Pool. There were two main jobs for the people focusing on trees. One person had to sit in the middle on the plot and record the measurements the tree measurers called out. The other job was to measure the diameter of the tree and also to identify the species. We were only allowed to count the trees with a diameter of 5cm or greater. After all of the recording was finished, we chose a few trees in the area to core. This information was helpful because it gave us idea on how old the forest might be and approximately how old the tree being cored was.
Below are two graphs on the basal area and the species of the trees in the plot.
