What happened on Monday?
On Monday, each group divided up by site, and we visited our own field sites to begin observations. My group, the Colchester Pond crew, canoed all day. It was POURING rain the whole time, and we had very soggy sandwiches, but we looked around Colchester Pond a whole ton. We wrote a lot in our journals too. This is me riding in a canoe. I paddled the first half of our canoe trip and, as you can see, I enjoyed relaxing in my canoe during the second half of the trip, while Katie propelled the canoe along.

Today after our field work, we had a visitor come in. She orgainizes community service for college students at UVM. She talked to us about what community-service learning is. After this Governor's Institute ends, we are each going to be doiung a service-learning project that relates to the enviornment and science in our own communities.

We aslo spent a long time through the evening sitting on the outside basketball court. We were each sharing the triangles that we had made. We spent 3-8 minutes describing our triangle. Each triangle was divided into four secrtions which had collages in them to represent different things about us. One quadrant was our geneology, ethnic bnackground, and family tree. Another part represented things to do, while another showed quotes and aspirations to us. The fourth quadrant related to our future hopes and dreams, as well as what we believe in and stand for.
