Brazilian Field Trip

November 21st, 2007

From December 12 to the 24th the MIMES project is now headed to the heart of the Amazon to gather baseline data with our Brazilian Partners. Dr. Ademar Romeiro from the Univesity of Campinas leads the boat expedition to the Purus River. The purpose of the trip is to gather data in water stations for running on-site simulation models to predict water quality and understand land use change. Here below are some photos and a video of a prior expedition. Stay Tuned.

EPA visits MIMES Team

November 18th, 2007

November 13-15, 2007

We hosted a visit from the EPA here in Burlington. The purpose of this meeting was to compare notes on how the MIMES framework can help the EPA move their agenda forward. The outcome was laying a collaboration strategy for expanding the MIMES framework within all the EPA regions.

Here is the TIMELINE that we agreed upon. The next step is for each leader to define the purpose and the expected outcome for each specific project.

This conversation was started by Dr. Rick Linthurst and Dr. Bob Costanza in the context of a U.S. EPA Workshop on Common Ground for Conserving Ecosystem Services: Contributions From the Sciences of Ecology and Economics held in Arlington Virginia back in July 2007.
