George McQuitty

George McQuitty was born near St. Andrews, Scotland in 1947. He has academic qualifications in Building Economics ad Law and has practiced as a lawyer, running his own business for more than 25 years. He is a member of the Law Society of Scotland and was appointed a Notary Public in 1975.

He is an associate with East West Tourism Ltd. and has acted on a number of occasions facilitating academic and business links, both in Law and Agriculture, with Eastern European countries and countries in the Former Soviet Union.

Currently he is active in research in the The Institute for Environmental History at the The University of St. Andrews and The Centre for Environmental History and Policy at The University of Stirlingă presently in the area of Regulation and Risk Mitigation in Outdoor Pursuits and with particular emphasis on the parallels and differences between Scottish and Norwegian experiences.

His broader research interests include Nature Conservation and Environmental Education and the use of the outdoors as a learning "room".

Other interests include the organization and facilitating of remote area "eco" trekking, sailing, canoeing and skiing.
