QUALIFICATIONS:


PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

William Browning founded of Rocky Mountain Institute's Green Development Services in 1991, and has led or supported innovative design and development efforts for scores of clients including the Sydney 2000 Olympics, Wal-Mart, the White House, the Pentagon, Monsanto, Hines, and George Lucas. He co-authored A Primer on Sustainable Building (1995), an introduction to green building; "Greening the Building and the Bottom Line," a 1994 study of increased worker productivity in energy-efficient buildings; and Green Development: Integrating Ecology and Real Estate (1998), an acclaimed textbook. His papers have been published in Urban Land, Architectural Record, Progressive Architecture, and AIA's Environmental Resource Guide. He serves as an editorial advisor for Environmental Building News, Environmental Design & Construction, and Green@work magazines. Mr. Browning is the principal of Anaskenoan LLC, a Virginia-based development company; a partner in the commercial development of a new town (Haymount, Virginia); and works independently with eco-resort developers.


Browning worked in RMI's Economic Renewal program where he co-authored the Community Energy Casebook, and worked with rural communities in the development of citizen lead economic development projects. He also undertook research on the economics of differing agricultural projection methods for the production of beef. He was part of an international team that created an award winning design for a youth exchange camp in the former Soviet Republic of Georgia.


He has worked on as an independent designer for art galleries, a recording studio, and a resort hotel expansion. He was an art broker for a firm that supplied antique arts and furniture to retail galleries.


Browning worked for the Windstar Foundation where he built advanced prototype greenhouses using Buckminster Fuller's last design technology. He built alternative energy systems and design educational games and simulations on global environmental and economic issues.
