Karl Steyaert, The Center for a New American Dream
Karl Steyaert is an independent scholar working with the Center for a New American Dream. His work with the Center includes co-editing a book presenting visions for a sustainable future, and researching policy mechanisms that promote sustainable consumption. Mr. Steyaert is currently also a PhD student in Cultural Anthropology at the University of Michigan, studying educational approaches to sustainable community development in the US and Europe. Since 1999, he has been a Coordinator for the Sustainable University of Michigan Initiative, a student-led effort moving the University toward increased environmental and social responsibility. From 1998-2000, Mr. Steyaert was the principal investigator for an EPA-funded study of sustainable development and urban agriculture in inner city Detroit. He has received a MS in Natural Resources Policy and Behavior and a MA in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Michigan, and a BA in Anthropology from Dartmouth College.
