Gund Institute for Ecological Economics

Two New Articles Published by Gund Fellows and Gund Graduate Fellows

Gund Fellows Josh Farley and Gary Flomenhoft along with current and former Gund Graduate Fellows: Brian Kelly, D. Forrest Murray, Stephen Posner, Matthew Putnam, Adam Scanlan, and Aaron Witham just published “Monetary and Fiscal Policies for a Finite Planet” in the special issue on Degrowth: The Economic Alternative for the Anthropocene in the journal Sustainability.  The article examines the US monetary and fiscal policies needed to foster a steady-state economy.  By putting forth multiple policy and institutional innovations the group proposes various ways to transition to an economy characterized by a rate of throughput compatible with planetary boundaries.  The article is a product of a joint collaboration between Gund Fellows and Gund Graduate Fellows who instituted a working group at the Gund, organized events, planned a class, presented at conferences and then published this article, which is available for free at Sustainability.

Gund Graduate Fellow Stephen Posner published a second paper with Ralph Stuart, “Understanding and advancing campus sustainability using a systems framework" in the International Journal of Sustainability in Higher Education. The article uses a leverage points framework to evaluate campus sustainability efforts at the University of Vermont in order to prioritize and advance organization change and effectiveness of campus sustainability.

Congratulations to all of the authors on these great publications.
