Partnerships exist is most businesses in the form of family relationships or business arrangements. Choosing the right partner is as important as being the right partner. Furthermore, when to end a partnership can be a critical business decision if not impossible at times. Managing the Partnership examines how a successful partnership should be formed financially and legally, when to start and how to end, and how to best manage the many emotions that are interwoven within family and business partnerships.
Greg Bourgea of Gallagher Flynn and Peter Erly of Gravel and Shea will examine various methods for buy-in, buy-out and the related valuation issues involved. Governance will also be addressed as Boards of Advisors and Boards of Directors can be critical in bringing resolution to key issues. Also, phantom stock ownership plans will be discussed as a method of deferred compensation. Behind the many financial and legal arrangements of business lie deep emotions. Mercy Russell-Hyde of the Vermont Center for Family Studies will delve into the emotional aspect of the many partnerships and relationships. may often be In those relationships, participants will examine the history and context. Peeling back the layers even further, what is clear and what is not clear in those relationships, which leads to what you will do and not do in those relationships.

Greg Bourgea is a Partner with Gallagher, Flynn & Company, and Co-Managing Partner since 2004. He began his career as an auditor with Arthur Andersen & Company in Boston. After rising to the level of senior auditor, he joined Gallagher, Flynn & Company in 1984. Greg has been a Partner in the Firm since 1990 and was named SBA Vermont Accountant of the Year in 2001.
Peter Erly has been with Gravel and Shea since 1987. his practice areas include business formation and representation, financings, mergers and acquisitions and real estate.
Mercy Russell-Hyde, MSW, Vermont Center for Family Studies
Mercy Russell Hyde, MSW is Vice President, and Past President, of the Vermont Center for Family Studies, providing training and education in family systems theory and its applications. With 25 years of experience, she consults to families, businesses and organizations on the management of relationship systems. Raised in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, she was educated at Carleton College and UCLA. She is married and has two sons.

WHY WE NEED YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER
Act 192 of the 2008 Vermont Legislature requires employers and other training providers receiving support from the state to provide the social security number of each individual participating in the training to the department of state government supporting the training. The social security number will be used to gather wage information from the Department of Labor's files after you complete training, in order to evaluate the training program.
The Departments of Labor and Economic Development must provide information on the employment outcomes of training programs to the Legislature. Your information will be combined with information of other trainees to ensure your privacy and the privacy of your employer. The law requires the departments to keep your information confidential.
