Operation: Military Kids Vermont (OMK) is a national program coordinated here in Vermont through the University of Vermont Extension 4-H. Our program is designed to promote community awareness in support of local military children and youth. Speak Out for Military Kids (SOMK), a core program element of OMK, is a youth-driven community outreach program in which youth help generate community awareness of issues faced by youth in National Guard and Army Reserve families and foster community activism in solving the problems they and their families face.
Youth deal with many stressors in their lives - and having a family member in the service does not make dealing with these stressors any easier. During SOMK web workshops, military and non-military youth have explored their own stress management techniques. Each youth has created a personalized webpage, offering some helpful tips and insights, which can be used by other youth looking for some stress management ideas. We hope you enjoy their messages, and find this to be a useful resource!
