Burlington--Are you interested in sampling college life, challenging yourself physically and mentally as you learn life skills and having fun with friends and new acquaintances? Then register by May 23 for Teen Exploration, a three-day, two-night event on the University of Vermont (UVM) campus.

The June 30-July 2 conference is open to all teens, ages 13 to 18 (as of Jan. 1, 2014). Although sponsored by the UVM Extension 4-H program, membership in 4-H is not required to participate.

Highlights include the Amazing 4-H Race, the challenge course at Northern Lights Rock and Ice in Essex Junction, an ice cream social and a sunset cruise and DJ Dance Party on Lake Champlain with DJ Derrick Cram. You also will have a chance to participate in three different workshops of your choosing on a wide range of topics from culinary, photography, scrapbooking and first aid for dogs and horses to self defense, Zumba fitness, aromatherapy crafts, CPR and the basics of Reiki.

The registration fee is $165, which includes on-campus accommodations, all meals and activities and workshops. There is an additional $20 fee for the CPR certification class.

To register or for more information, go to www.uvm.edu/extension/teenleadership. If you require a disability-related accommodation to participate in this program, please call the UVM Extension 4-H Office in Morrisville, toll-free at (866) 260-5603 by May 23.

Most county 4-H foundations offer scholarships to offset conference costs for 4-H'ers. Check with your local UVM Extension office for details.
