Food, Fun and Reading Program (pre-school through Grade 2)
Food, Fun and Reading is a nutrition and literacy program developed for pre-school through Grade 2. Children learn about food and nutrition by having children's storybooks with food-related themes read to them and then participating in hands-on nutrition activities.
Each of the six lessons include nutrition objectives, background information for the instructor, guidelines for discussion before and after reading the story, nutrition lesson based on the current USDA food graphic, MyPlate, list of supplies needed, supplemental activities, other books children might enjoy, Internet sites of interest, recipes, letter to parents, and take-home activity.
The curriculum was updated in 2012 with a MyPlate revision document to be included with the publication.
