Food, Culture and Reading Program (pre-school through Grade 2)

Program Description

Food, Culture and Reading is a nutrition education program for pre-school through grade 2 that uses picture books to learn about food and different cultures.

A series of six lessons highlights what children eat around the world. Each lesson is planned for 45 minutes, but supplemental activities are included so that each lesson can be expanded. Lessons include an activity sheet, recipes, and a parent newsletter.

Through a wide variety of experiential activities, young children will be able to recognize a variety of healthful foods within each food group, taste new foods from other cultures, explore the similarities of foods, and develop an understanding and appreciation of cultures that are different from their own.
