Three out of every four acres in Vermont is forest, the vast majority of which (81%) is owned by 80,000-plus private owners. Forest-based receipts (from manufacturing, recreation and tourism) contribute more than $1.5 billion to Vermont's economy each year through an employment sector that provides nearly 6,500 jobs, generating annual payrolls in excess of $90 million.
