St. Johnsbury--University of Vermont (UVM) Extension recently hired a new 4-H educator for Caledonia and Lamoille Counties.

Anthony Willey, who will be based in the UVM Extension Office in St. Johnsbury, began work in April. In addition to supporting and expanding 4-H clubs, youth programs and afterschool programs, he will be the team leader for 4-H Tech Wizards and Prosper, a prevention program designed to help strengthen families, build life skills and reduce substance use among youths.

Willey earned his bachelor of science degree in mountain recreation management/adventure leadership from Lyndon State College in Lyndonville. He has served as the assistant camp director for Coutts-Moriarty 4-H Camp in Derby and later as director of Camp Laughing Turtle in Cabot for four summers.

Prior to his employment with UVM Extension, Willey was a project director for afterschool programs in three communities for the Washington Northeast School Supervisory Union. He also was the secondary programs coordinator at the Learning Center at Twinfield School in Plainfield where he designed and implemented recreational and educational afterschool programs for middle and high school students.

The Northeast Kingdom native, who descends from a long line of Vermonters, grew up in Greensboro, just down the road from his grandfather's dairy farm. He currently resides in Walden with his wife, who he met at 4-H camp, and their two children.

Willey can be reached at (802) 751-8310, ext. 357, or by e-mail at anthony.willey@uvm.edu.
