Outdoor Educational Weekend Planned For Teens, July 11-13

Teens at the 2012 Natural Resources Management Academy.

Woodbury--The Natural Resources Management Academy, now in its seventh year, offers teens an opportunity to learn about Vermont's diverse natural resources as they explore career options, hone their leadership skills and connect with others who share a love of the outdoors and interest in environmental issues.

The academy, which is co-sponsored by University of Vermont (UVM) Extension 4-H and the Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife, will run from July 11 to 13 at the Green Mountain Conservation Camp at Buck Lake in Woodbury. It is open to all high school students in Vermont and neighboring states including Class of 2014 graduates.

The weekend combines traditional camp activities such as shooting sports, swimming and evening campfires with s'mores with fun, educational workshops on nature photography, fisheries, aquatic ecology, water rescue, fishing and canoeing, forest health, soil science, invasive insect species and herbal first aid kits. It concludes with a graduation ceremony at 12:45 p.m. on Sunday, which parents and family members are welcome to attend.

Registration is $95 and covers meals, two nights' lodging in rustic cabins, a camp T-shirt and all workshops and activities. Registrations will be accepted until June 16 or all spots are taken.
