All Roads Lead To Barre May 17 for 4-H State Day

Barre--For many of Vermont's most outstanding 4-H'ers, May 17 will be the day when they proudly will share what they have learned through 4-H with family, friends and other visitors.

The annual 4-H State Day features 4-H club members from every county who will participate in action exhibits, stage acts, technology presentations, demonstrations, fashion revue and public speaking contests. In addition, award-winning photos, posters, tabletop exhibits and quilts and other non-clothing sewing items will be on display at the event, which takes place at the Municipal Auditorium at the Barre Civic Center in Barre.

State Day, which is sponsored by University of Vermont (UVM) Extension 4-H, will get underway at 9 a.m. with the opening assembly. The event is free and open to the public.

Following the assembly, the 4-H'ers, all winners at the regional level, will present action exhibits on a diverse range of topics from horse care and foods and nutrition to the environment, arts and crafts and chicken showmanship. Stage presentations will include songs, dances, skits and musical numbers.

Visitors also may observe the public speaking competitions, technology presentations and fashion revue as well as view the photo and poster galleries. Tabletop displays will teach about healthy eating, recycling, animal therapy, crafts, food preservation, rabbits, volunteerism and agriculture, among other topics.

The awards ceremony will begin at 2 p.m., following the fashion revue, to announce the action exhibits, stage presentations, posters and photographs selected to represent the state at Eastern States Exposition, W. Springfield, Mass. in September. All fashion revue participants chosen for State Day also will have the opportunity to model their garments at Eastern States.
