Vermont 4-H'ers Vie For Ribbons at State 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl

Randolph Center--On March 15, 72 Vermont 4-H'ers faced off in buzzer rounds at the State 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl, earning points for knowing the answers to dairy-related questions about feeding, breeding, anatomy, herd health, the dairy industry and a host of other topics.
Quiz bowl, sponsored by University of Vermont (UVM) Extension 4-H, was held at Vermont Technical College in Randolph Center and included a written test in addition to several rounds of oral questions. The combined scores from both were used to determine the placements in each age group.
Competition was fierce in the senior division as contestants, ages 14 to 18, vied for a spot on the state 4-H dairy team that will represent Vermont in regional and national competition. Finishing in the top four, thus earning a place on the team, were Maggie Kirby, East Montpelier; Andrew Seward, East Wallingford; Ben Maille, Shelburne and Devon Mitchell, Richford. First alternate is Tara Collins, Fairlee. Second alternate is Molly Turco, Ira.
Other finishers in the top 10 in the senior division included Maggie Turco, Ira; Rachel Burt, Bridport; Thomas Parker, East Montpelier and Rebecca Tanner, Lyndonville.
Junior division winners, by age group, and in order of placement were:
- 12 and 13 years old--Lilli Seward, East Wallingford; Isabel Hall, East Montpelier; Lucy Kelley, Morrisville; Maddie Nadeau, Holland; Caroline Kirby, East Montpelier; Chandra Stanley, Franklin; Emily Carson, Newbury; Adele Biasini, Morrisville; Dana Seward, East Wallingford; Chris Elrick, Wallingford.
- 10 and 11 years old--Emma Nadeau, Derby; Courtney Curler, Bridport; Keenan Thygesen, Tunbridge; Riley Cross, Reading; Gabby Shontz, Reading; Ryanne Nadeau, Derby; Ryan Flanders, Clarendon; Hunter Michaud, East Hardwick; Sarah Flanders, Clarendon; Caleb Palazzo, Reading.
- 8 and 9 years old--Charlie Haynes, East Montpelier; Emily Russell, Brookfield; Sadie Ellner, Morrisville; Michael Plouffe, Bridport; Aleah Nelson, Ryegate; Kadence Cardi, West Rutland; Lincoln Michaud, East Hardwick; Owen Seward, East Wallingford; Crosse Gariboldi, East Montpelier; Taryn Cottrell, Clarendon; Avery Nelson, Ryegate.
