GPS and Digital Photography Training Offered at School Vacation Camp

Lyndonville--Northeast Kingdom students, Grades 5-8, with an interest in digital photography or GPS (global positioning system) mapping technology can learn how at a three-day school vacation day camp in Lyndonville in April. The deadline for registration is April 10.

The University of Vermont (UVM) Extension 4-H GPS and Photography Vacation Camp is planned for April 15-17 at Lyndon Town School (2591 Lily Pond Rd.) The $25 registration fee will be waived for military kids with scholarships available, if requested, for non-military youths.

Campers will receive instruction in the basics of using a digital camera and how to take different types of photos. They also will learn how to use hand-held GPS units and apply this information to take images and create a map using Google Earth. In addition, they will participate in fun leadership activities and cooperative games designed to teach team-building, decision-making and other life skills.

Equipment will be available for use during the camp sessions, which run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. Weather permitting, youths will spend much of the time outside so need to dress appropriately. They also are asked to bring their own bag lunch and water every day although healthy snacks will be provided.
