"The Last Letter: A Father's Struggle, a Daughter's Quest, and the Long Shadow of the Holocaust" Karen Baum Gordon

Apr 10, 2024
4:00 pm to 5:30 pm
Marsh Room, Billings Library

Karen Baum Gordon is the daughter of Rudolf Baum, whose unsuccessful efforts to save his parents from the Holocaust had multigenerational effects. Her lecture will focus her father's story and the shadow of the Holocaust that took the lives of her grandparents and irrevocably altered both her father's life and her own. More than eighty letters written by her grandparents in Germany to her father in the United States between 1934 and 1942 serve as the anchor for the research on which this lecture is based.
