[CIT(Computing and Information Technology)] Installing the Epson Color 740 as a USB device If you are trying to install an Epson Color 740 connected to your computer with a USB cable the following instructions may help you out. You will find similar instructions included with the documentation that came with your printer. 1. Remove any Epson printer pieces which may be incorrectly installed. FIRST, then click on the Device Manager tab. Look specifically for any USB device with a yellow bang (exclamation point) next to it. DELETE THIS if you find it. Close the System control panel. SECOND, look in Start--> Settings> Control Panel. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs control panel. Uninstall any Epson printer 'stuff' you may find there. Close Add/Remove programs control panel. 2. Be sure printer is turned OFF but connected- Then restart the system. After the boot process is complete ,(when you sell the icons on your desktop) turn on the printer Put Epson printer CD in CD drive. 3. Windows should next detect a new USB device Click OK when you see this message Then choose "Search for the best driver for your device." On next screen, Check ONLY "specific location" and browse to d\drivers\win98\ . Click [OK] Windows will find and install the drivers for Epson USB Printer/ 4. From here, it should detect the Epson Stylus Color 740. Again, point to d\drivers\win98\. Follow the prompts to install the printer drivers, then the Epson status monitor. If all goes well, go to step 5. Note if the installer fails under Step 4 (can't find Setup or DLL's) then try this: Quit the installation. Go to My Computer. Open the CD-Rom icon. Look in the Drivers folder on the CD ROM drive and double-click on Setup. This should finish setting up the drivers for the printer 5. Reboot. Go to My Computer->Printers->Epson...->Properties and print a test page. IF this fails, look at the Properties (right mouse click on the icon for the printer) for the Epson 740 under the Details Tab. Make sure it is using the USB port, not LPT1! If the above install has worked you should be able to select the Epson USB port.
