UVM Oracle Calendar Upgrade

NOTE: First download and install the latest version of Oracle Calendar, (available from www.uvm.edu/cit/software).  Then take the following steps.

Clients who use hendheld devices will need the upgraded version of their Oracle sync progam as well (available from www.uvm.edu/cit/software).  Please go to www.uvm.edu/cit/handheld for specific instructions about handheld devices.

On October 3, 2005, a new version of Oracle Calendar (10.1.1.0.2) will be available. The new version (like version 9.0.4) uses your Netid and Netid password (The same login name and password that you use for email, lab computers, VPN, etc.  Your Netid is usually the first initial of your first name and first seven letters of your last name, all lower case, no spaces).

Upgrading to version 10 will resolve the problem in version 9x which caused holidays to display incorrectly. Upgrading to version 10 is required by December 2005 in order for your Calendar client to correctly sync with the new Calendar server software, scheduled for installation from December 20-30, 2005.

There are additional steps specified below for users that have an “Offline” calendar.  In this new version, (as with Oracle 9.0.4), the "Offline" agenda is not enabled  by default.  There are instructions below on how to enable an "Offline" agenda.

Offline Agenda Users: Corporate Time /Oracle Calendar

Keep your Offline agenda available for synchronization by editing the unison.ini file

An Offline agenda allows you to view your calendar when there is no network connection available to the UVM Calendar server.  This is especially useful for laptop users when they are away from the UVM campus.  To enable the facility you need to update the "unison.ini" file on your system.

You can locate the unison.ini file by using the Windows SEARCH option:
Choose "search for all files and folders"
type in unison.ini
in Advanced options, check Search hidden files and subfolders, as shown below on the left.
Click "Search"

The unison.ini file that you want to access is the one that has your NetId in the path.  For the user whose screen is shown, that would be the last entry.  Look for your NetId in the "In Folder" list and double click that particular unison.ini file.

When you open the file with Wordpad, and add the following statements IF they are not already there:

[GENPREFS]
offlineab=true

Save the file, close Wordpad, and restart the calendar application.

Example of a successfully edited unison.ini file:

FIRST TIME INSTALLATION:

Click Yes.  Begin using your Offline Calendar.

UPGRADE:

Click OK.  Begin using your Offline Calendar. If you are prompted for your Offline agenda password, or receive a message that it does not match your online password, use the previous password you had defined to access the offline agenda the first time.  See below for details on passwords.

Offline Agenda Users: Password Changes and the Oracle Calendar.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT use the "password change" feature under tools in the Calendar Client.  The Calendar System now automatically uses the UVM Netid and Netid password. Instead use the UVM "change password" form accessible from:

https://cgi.uvm.edu/cgi-bin/zoo/password/index.cgi

Whenever you change you NetId password, if you have an off-line agenda defined, you will be prompted for your off-line agenda password which is the previous password you had defined. Enter that password at the prompt to gain access to the "off-line" agenda.

Troubleshooting:

When you "log in" to Oracle Calendar, if you receive an error message that your Offline password does not match your Online password, you must remove the Offline agenda files to use the same password.  This process will also enable your Calendar to sync with a handheld device if you find that your calendar no longer syncs.  Do the following:

Make sure that Oracle Calendar is not open, then delete the locally stored offline agenda files: xtmlocal.dat and xtmlocal.ndx. (You can do a search of your C: drive for xtm*.* to find these files.  Right click and choose "Delete" for each file found.) Re-launch Oracle Calendar, and it will automatically rebuild the offline agenda.  None of your meetings will be lost.
