Following the success of the TECH is IN pilot that took place in the Harris-Millis lounge this past April, The CIT Safe Computing Group and Residential life staff met to plan similar events for this coming 2005-2006 academic year. The TECH is IN service recreates the Depot's Walk-in style service in a temporary setting in a residence hall lounge. Students can come to the tables staffed by CIT Walk-in technicians and have their questions answers. They will also receive assistance as they learn how to maintain their own computers. The original pilot session focused on information about safe computing and dealing with malware; future sessions will expand the range of services and include information on using zoo space, the software archive, and various methods of backing up data.
The TECH is IN sessions will be offered in the Fall 2005 and Spring 2006 semesters, approximately 2 weeks before final exams. This is a critical time during which students need to be able to rely on their computers to access their final papers, projects, or research data, access online classes, and communicate with professors or students. One session will be held in a residence hall each evening for three consecutive evenings each semester. The location will change each evening. Tentative dates and locations are:
The final schedule will be posted online, on the residential life list serve, and in the Residence halls before the events.
