ENVS 295 Plastics: Human and Environmental Impacts

Plastics are everywhere, but what is in them and how do they impact our health and the environment? We will ground our studies in the range and nature of synthetic polymers, evaluation of information resources and exposure to environmental health science research, We will discuss the proposed policy and legal solutions and practice articulating stakeholder positions. We will also look at the viability of alternative materials such as "bioplastics" from the emerging field of green chemistry. Students will be evaluated on two exams, a class presentation, research paper, and class participation.
