Plankton and Water Quality

The Bottom Line

We are continuing our assessment of the plankton communities in Burlington Bay. As the database develops, we will focus on comparisons with historical data to
identify overall trends in the bay over the last decade. Increasing zebra mussel populations, implementation of the Lake Champlain Phosphorus Reduction Plan, and
urban storm water runoff may all influence the plankton composition in Burlington Bay. By next year (2003), we hope to have developed a comprehensive picture of the plankton in Burlington Bay.
