Follow the Leaf Campaign

On April 18th, UVM's Eco-Reps launched their "Follow the Leaf" campaign with a tabling event where passersby wrote out their eco-pledges and the group premiered a video to kick-off the campaign.

Fall 2012 UVM Eco-Reps

The UVM Eco-Reps Program is off to a great start this year! Eco-Reps arrived on campus early for a Fall Training that included field trips to the local Materials Recovery Facility as well as Green Mountain Compost. This provided perspective on how waste from UVM's residence halls is handled once it leaves campus.

Eco-Reps Fall bulb swap success!

UVM Eco-Reps exchanged 500 CFL bulbs this Fall. This is one of our regular actions that has a relatively easy-to-measure impact.

According to our calculations for the incandescent bulbs we collected, this amounts to the university avoiding approximately:

  • 21,000 kwh of electricity
  • $2,500 in utility costs
  • 7.85 MT of CO2e emissions

This is an annual activity for UVM Eco-Reps, and may involve exchanging a smaller number of more efficient LED bulbs for next year...

Compost Innovation

Eco-Reps collect food scraps in residence halls on campus and work with UVM Recycling to send this material to a local composting facility.

Three pilot projects were tested on small scales in Fall 2011:

1) One Revolution organic waste pick up

Using bicycles, a company called One Revolution transported organic waste material from Redstone campus to a compost collection facility.
