Sample Parent Notification Letter
Dear Parent or Guardian:
I am writing to inform you that your student was recently found responsible for violating the University's Alcohol Policy. We encourage you to take this opportunity to discuss this incident with your student. Additional violations of this nature will place his or her success and continued enrollment at The University of Vermont at risk.
While we encourage you to speak with your student about the decision letter that s/he received, you may find that you need additional information from our office. In order for a member of our staff to discuss the specifics of your student's student conduct record with you, your student will need to sign and return the "waiver of confidentiality" form. This can be found on our website at: http://www.uvm.edu/cses/waiverconf.pdf.
While ultimately each student determines his or her own path at UVM, we believe that parental involvement in their student's growth and decision making will aid in his or her success. To this end, we have and will continue to stress the importance of ongoing dialogue between every student and his or her family. We believe notifying parents and encouraging their involvement increases the likelihood of successful intervention and the student's success at UVM.
Please recognize that any further violations of University policy may result in suspension or dismissal from the University. We want your student to succeed at UVM, but future poor choices on his/her part may be the biggest obstacle to their success.
Additional information about the University’s student conduct system and our policies and procedures can be found in the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities, available on the UVM website at: http://www.uvm.edu/~uvmppg/ppg/student/studentcode.pdf.
Sincerely,
Kim Martin-Anderson
