Middlesex is home of David Harp, (b. David Feldman, NYC; m. Rita Ricketson, who grew up on a dairy farm in Stowe, in San Francisco). Harp is a musician, teacher, publisher, author, and entrepreneur. He has scientifically studied how to teach the harmonica. His latest project is known as Harmonica America!, a non-profit corporation that is finding new ways of using the harmonica to help frail senior citizens, immobilized post-operative patients, the developmentally disabled, and victims of Alzheimer's disease. It is therapeutic; and actually increases lung capacity through playing. Harp reached a Guinness world record by teaching 2,569 people to play the blues, a train song and some Beethoven at the Ben and Jerry's Festival in Waitsfield.
Sam Kerson, co-director, with wife, Susan Bettmann, of the Dragon Dance Theater, also lives in Middlesex. He is an artist using bright pastel paints to illustrate his annual journeys to spots in Mexico, South and Central America and Cuba.
