What type of work do you typically do for CRS?
Typical work for me at CRS includes working on research projects with faculty members at UVM, as well as working with community partners across the states such as government agencies, non-profit organizations and businesses. The work that I do with the community partners and faculty members ranges from survey and evaluation work to spatial analysis and economic impact studies.
What are some of your favorite past projects that you’ve worked on? Why?
One of my favorite past projects is one that I worked on as a graduate student in the Community Development and Applied Economics department. For this project, we looked at the cost of food safety certification on produce farms in Vermont. Not only did I learn a lot working on this project but the results have been used by stakeholders at the local and national level in the conversation around the new food safety law (the Food Safety Modernization Act). Our study was the only one at the time of the study in 2011 that looked at the cost of food safety certification on diversified fruit and veggie farms.
Who benefits from the work that you do?
As my CRS colleagues have pointed out, our work benefits Vermonters, communities, practitioners and policy makers. Some of the work that we do also benefits stakeholders beyond the borders of our state.
What else would you like people to know about you professionally?
I am really excited to work in a place like CRS as it challenges me to constantly learn while working with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
What is your favorite thing about Vermont?
I grew up in a small rural state and even though the weather is quite different, Vermont has felt like home from the first day I moved here.
