Routine and complex vital signs

Nursing Services

The following are commonly performed nursing services.  In addition, other services may be arranged by contacting Joan Bertolet, Nurse Manager.
  • Assistance with infusion and clamp studies
  • Assistance with muscle biopsies
  • Assistance with physical examinations
  • Cardiac monitoring for specific protocols
  • Direct venipuncture for blood sampling
  • Documentation (e.g. source documents, physician orders, patient teaching aides, nursing guidelines)
  • Electrocardiogram
  • Finger stick glucometer monitoring - whole blood glucose monitoring
  • Intravenous access
  • Intravenous and oral glucose tolerance testing
  • Management of arterial lines
  • Medication administration
  • Metabolic Weight and height
  • Monitoring of oxygen saturation (02 sat)
  • Observation/documentation of side effects
  • One-on-one nursing care for intensive protocol needs
  • Patient teaching
  • Routine and complex vital signs
  • Specimen collections: blood, urine, stool, sputum, saliva
  • Specimen processing after laboratory hours
  • Thermal Effect of a Meal testing (using Indirect Calorimetry)
  • Video camera monitoring of patients
