Sediment Generation and Transport Rates

After a decade of sampling river networks and analyzing the concentration of cosmogenic nuclides in river sediment, we sought to understand better where on the landscape cosmic-ray dosing occurred. By synthesizing the approaches of Heimsath (soil production rates) and Nichols (sediment transport) we verified that the nuclide concentration in sediments is set predominantly on the hillslopes in this steep, humid-temperate environment.
