UVM is a smoke-free campus. Smoking is not allowed in any of the residence halls, administrative offices, libraries, dining halls, or building entrances. Smoking is allowed twenty feet beyond a building's exterior.

The State of Vermont's legal drinking age is 21. The expectation at the University of Vermont is that those under the age of 21 may not possess or consume alcohol (or any illegal substances).

No dogs or other domestic animals, with the exception of seeing-eye dogs and hearing-ear dogs, are allowed to be in University buildings. For reasons of health and sanitation, pets of any type may not be kept in the residence halls.
