Research Philosophy

We are generally fascinated by the types of phases of matter that emerge when large numbers of bosons or fermions interact strongly in solids. We employ a variety of methods in our research, including both analytical and numerical techniques to help elucidate the role played by quantum mechanics in these complex systems.

Some specific areas include:

  • Theoretical studies of complex nanoscale materials
  • Strongly-correlated systems and novel electronic compounds
  • Quantum many-body phenomena in low-dimensional systems
  • Large scale quantum Monte Carlo simulations of quantum matter
  • The physics of Graphene, carbon nanotubes, and their derivatives
  • Studies of emergent phenomena in complex quantum systems
