Abbas Raza

First Year Graduate Student

Profile

I have an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and Master’s in Virology from University of the Punjab and National University of Sciences and Technology, respectively. I worked as research assistant with Prof. Qureshi at Department of biology, LUMS, studying gene regulation mechanisms in archaea. After that I worked in a clinical setting as research associate at Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital exploring BRCA1 and 2 polymorphism risks among breast and ovarian cancer patients.

Research Description

I joined CMB program in Jan 2014 and rotated with Prof. Sylvie Doublie Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics learning the area of protein crystallography for DNA repair enzymes. Then I did my second rotation with Prof. Cory Teuscher in the Department of Pathology on Histamine receptor signaling in a EAE mouse model of Multiple Sclerosis. Presently, I rotate with Prof. Mark T. Nelson in the Department of Pharmacology exploring TRPV4 signaling and AKAP150 modulation using mouse mesenteric arteries and how AngiotensinII mediated impairment in endothelial dysfunction correlate to these ion channels.
